VMETRO & Motorola Collaborate to Deliver High-Speed I/O on MVME5500

VMETRO, the premier provider of products for high-speed sensor I/O, data recording, and bus analyzers and Motorola Computer Group, a part of Motorola, Inc. today announced a collaborative effort that has resulted in the validation and benchmarking of VMETRO's DPIO2 Front Panel Data Port (FPDP) II PMC card with Motorola's MVME5500 single board computer.

The results - 380 MB/s when the MVME5500 acts as the data source and 398 MB/s when the DPIO2 acts as the data source - represents 95% and 99% of the available FPDP II bandwidth respectively.

Utilized together, these cards provide a useful building block for systems requiring significant processing and I/O capabilities such as those often found in surveillance, signal intelligence and telemetry as well as semiconductor and medical imaging applications.

"By validating and benchmarking a commonly used processing and I/O subsystem, VMETRO and Motorola have removed a prime obstacle to the construction of high-performance systems," said Dave Barker, Product Marketing Manager at Motorola Computer Group. "For the customer this translates into faster time-to-market and lower cost."

"VMETRO and Motorola have done the work so our customers will not have to," said Tom Bohman, Vice President of Business Development at VMETRO. "The existence of a validated and benchmarked solution will greatly ease the customer's integration experience."
