Ed Hennessy has been named Vice President of Sales and Marketing for DY 4 Systems, Inc. Mr. Hennessy, whose position combines responsibilities for both worldwide Sales and Marketing organizations, recently served as Vice President of North American Sales of the Government Electronics Group for Mercury Computer Systems, a VME computer company specializing in integrated systems marketed and distributed to the military and commercial off-the-shelf-markets worldwide.
Hennessy's responsibilities will include the management of DY 4's worldwide sales force and applications engineers, strategic marketing, product marketing, and bid support organizations.
DY 4 has appointed Douglas Patterson to the newly created position of Technical Marketing Manager. Patterson, who most recently served as Product Marketing Manager for Radstone Technology, will have responsibilities for the technical support and marketing of DY 4's full range of board and system level COTS products in the U.S. for harsh environment industrial, rugged and mission critical military applications. A veteran of the electronics industry for more than 20 years, Patterson has been involved in the marketing of products and development of industry standards for the harsh, military sector. He is the most widely published author of articles and technical papers on Mil-Spec VME. Patterson's primary responsibilities will be to help direct DY 4's engineering resources in the research, development and support of current and next generation products. His activities will cover the company's full spectrum of SBC processor, memory, communications, Digital Signal Processing (DSP) and I/O boards, chassis, software and systems, as well as DY 4's new, recently expanded range of graphics and image capture products. Patterson joined DY 4 in November 1995. Prior to that he held marketing positions at Radstone Technology and served in a variety of systems and software development positions for semiconductor firm Mostek, and other electronics firms.
Xircom, Inc., the leading provider of mobile networking solutions, announces the appointment of Richard (Dick) Sterry as director of marketing for the company's Systems Division located in Salem, New Hampshire. Reporting to William Rosenberger, general manager, Sterry is responsible for the implementation and execution of marketing strategy and programs for the company's Netaccess server products and ISDN OEM products. Mr. Sterry joins Xircom from Computervision Corporation (Bedford, MA) where he served as director of worldwide marketing operations. Over his 23 year career, Sterry has held various executive marketing positions in datacommunications and networking companies such as Extension Technology, Avatar, Microcom and Prime Computer Corp. Mr. Sterry has a BA in Management from Michigan State University and an MBA from Wayne State University.

AP Labs, a leading provider of VME-based real-time computer systems, was awarded a $380,000 contract by Digital Interface Systems, Inc. (DIS). AP Labs will provide four VMEstation® systems to DIS for implementation supporting the 80" Hot Strip Mill Modernization project at Bethlehem Steel Corporation. Over the next two years, Bethlehem Steel will upgrade the last three stands of its seven-stand finishing mill to include hydraulic looper control, hydraulic AGC and work roll bending. AP Labs' systems will provide new VME-based closed loop control systems for the loopers, the hydraulic AGC and work roll bending. The VMEstation provides a Commercial-Off-The-Shelf (COTS) real-time solution supporting a wide range of VME I/O cards fully supported by AP Labs' VxWorks device drivers. For the Bethlehem Steel project, DIS will provide a new UNIX-based development system, a data acquisition system and operator interface stations, a hydraulic PLC system, and an automatic roll change PLC system, as well as overall communications comprised of Ethernet and FDDI links. National Instruments has opened a new office in Israel, with Yechiel Peled as Manager. This new office gives scientists and engineers in Israel a local office to provide sales and technical support. National Instruments has named David Wilson as Data Acquisition (DAQ) Marketing Manager. Wilson will manage strategic planning and marketing for National Instruments data acquisition hardware and software and guide product research and development. Wilson comes to this position after serving five years as the National Instruments District Sales Manager for the state of Michigan. As District Sales Manager for the state of Michigan, Wilson used his data acquisition expertise to recommend virtual instrumentation solutions for a wide variety of automotive applications. Wilson contributed to the development of systems to test antilock brakes at Ford, worked with EG&G to develop systems to simulate and test automotive electronic control modules, and advised the EPA on emissions testing systems. Additionally, Wilson worked with GM, Chrysler, Lucas, ITT Automotive, Siemens, United Tech Automotive, and Mazda to help these automotive companies achieve the flexible, cost-saving benefits of virtual instrumentation. Wilson earned his B.S. in applied physics from the State University of New York.
