Call for Comments

October 2003
VSO Members,

In April 2003 ANSI changed its method of accrediting standards development organizations (SDOs). SDOs will no longer be able to use procedures developed and maintained by ANSI, but will instead be responsible for developing their own procedures based on ANSI's Essential Requirements document.

As a result, I have revised the VSO's Policies and Procedures and created a new separate document for achieving ANSI recognition of VSO draft standards. Links to the drafts of these two documents are shown below along with a summary of changes to the P&P's.

  1. VSO Policies and Procedures, Draft 1.6
  2. Procedures for the Development of American National Standards within the VSO, Draft 0.1
  3. VSO PP Changes

A copy of the current VSO PP is also available for review.

VSO members should review these documents, and email comments to me. These drafts will be reviewed at the November 19-20 VSO meeting and comments will be discussed.

A 30 day ballot will begin in December and the results will be reviewed at the January 2004 VSO meeting.

Final documents are to be approved by the March VSO meeting and submitted to ANSI for approval.

If you have questions regarding this process, please contact me.
